Disharmonic Orchestra

1st time I bumped into Disharmonic Orchestra coincided with the release of their debut Split with Pungent Stench which,if memory isn´t failing me,was one of Nuclear Blast´s 1st releases or maybe even the very first one(couldn´t be bothered to check this out)
...anyways,after having purchased said Split (at a time when Death/Grind was already a serious contender to usurp Thrash metal´s leading role as the ultimate,most extreme expression within the metal genre as a whole) I can´t really affirm that I was impressed by either Pungent stench or Disharmonic Orchestra - both seeemed 2nd rate(to say the least) to me when compared to say Death´s "Leprosy" or Napalm Death´s "From enslavement..." to name but two of those early death/grind albums which were absolutely consuming me at the time...well,in order not to make this very extensive lets move forward some months to the time Disharmonic´s "Expositionsprophylaxe" proper debut was released.
Now,this is a very different product altogether,I was instantly hooked by its intensity,extremity ,you name it.I still lump this together with a few selected early Death/grind classics such as Carnage´s "Dark recollections" or Cadaver´s "Hallucinating anxiety"etc,etc ... "Expositionsprophylaxe" was up to par with all its peers and managed to sound like nothing else at the same time.
Well, in between the relentless death/grind assault that was the "expositionsprophylaxe" debut there was already this quite "unorthodox" interpretation of the original death/grind sound,the use of unusual (for the genre)time signatures ,song arrangements and a general aura of weirdness (not only soundwise but also present in lyrics,image,artwork).This being said ,and moving on to its follow-up in the form of "Not to be undimensional conscious" (which unarguably represents their definitive album imo) I do not think that anything on its predecessors could have prepared the listener to what is to be found in the latter - A Milestone in Tech-Avant-garde-experimental-whatever Death Metal augmented by Tomas Skogsberg at the production helm
Tech-avant garde etc may lead one to think of studio trickery,overuse of keyboards , shitloads of effects,triggers,that emphasis on technical ability,the sort that makes an album sound like a random set of musical exercises as opposed to a cohesive,meaningful collection of songs ... well , think of Voivod´s "Nothingface" album as a reference point, that is the sort of "tech/avant-garde" we have in "not to be undimensional conscious".Fukk , this is getting long ...oh well , you have it all in here except the reunion album which I haven´t eevn heard but judging by the much anathematised "Pleasuredome" album which I enjoy a lot (Think of those albums such as Manes´"Vilosophe",Celtic Frost´s "Cold lake",Voivod´s "angelrat" and so forth) I suspect "Ahead" won´t truly be that "shocking" ... classic stuff ...

Well,(un)fortunately I do not keep any archives anywhere but Namru quite blatantly

(and to my total disbelief) expresssed the will to post the latter´s entire (Official and Unofficial) discography.

Well , see this as my contribution/introduction (that "rare" bootleg I told you of will be coming soon too as soon as I find it)to your future post ,

Distorted Cognitions

THIS IS WHAT XUL LIVES FOR.

Something so utterly ugly, so disgustingly terrible to listen to, that it rots your eyes with its vibrations, krushes your nose with its stamping distortion, and shakes your brain violently like a crazed mother that has had enough of her crying new born.

Imagine finding an album that contains a song that instantly sends shooting visions into your mind of T-800's punching the fukk out of each other in an engine room, screaming their cyborg curses, and totally destroying everything. See Track - 3.

All in all, I'm glad and feel lucky to have discovered this album/band, as I believe it is a true representation of what can be created with enough wires, hate and of course, Xul in your soul/CPU.

Skin Chamber

The single most impressive "Industrial-Metal"(so much more than this though) albums of all time.

Hardly surprising if one is to take into consideration that both Paul Lemos and Chris Moriarty are the USA´s equivalent to,say,Einsturzende Neubauten in Europe - in other words,pioneers/innovators in the US´s ambient-noise-industrial etc scene (if there ever was one at all) ... so, basically people who´ve been experimenting with sound in general since as early as the late 70s

,having released countless albums as Controlled Bleeding prior to this "project"... and speak of longevity paying off - the way sound is used in here in order to evoke mood - space denotes exactly that imo (listen to a song like "in the sewer of dreams" to name but one) -

... and yeah ,we also have the "Metal" part to it (not that I´m in some way disassociating it from the above or anything), well , it´s 91, those of you who were around and into metal (not necessarily metal-metal,more like all that exciting new extreme music that was being released by labels like Earache for instance) can fairly easy attest that 91 was a peak of sorts(in creativity,extremity,you name it) for taht style of music thus making perfect sense that "outsiders" such as CB opted to dabble with it while doing these two albums which were quite clearly an outlet for a Darker vision.

Ironically & conveniently enough ,the best/most succinct way to describe what DcD means to me/how I perceive it all(whichever way you may wish to put it)coincides with one of their songs´ title - "Anywhere out of the world"- or if that sounds pretentious,pompous,pathetic,_____ or all of the above combined,perhaps 4AD Ivo´s(?!) words may just happen to be less (or more)so : "Dead Can Dance were not obsessed with the past, nor did they provide a sense of nostalgic escape into bygone ages. They severed boundaries and set music free from the fetters of time and place, soaring out of the immediate world".

...Anyways ... fukk what they mean to me or to anybody else for that matter,let´s focus more on what EXACTLY is in here:

1-the COMPLETE official discography (@320kbps) uploaded directly from my juuuuust as complete cd collection(just a 1 + 1/3 exception due to the (in)conveniences of vynil and technical problems respectively)

2-a bootleg series I particularly enjoy (6 over 1 hour long each cds of unreleased songs, demos,rehearsals,lives etc),not necessarily for the "right" reasons but I guess those of you who´ve been with DcD for half as long as we have will enjoy it just as much...Oh yeah, I do not own those so expect the quality you truly deserve)

3- As a starting point I´d either go for their "mid-period" albums("Spleen & Ideal","Within the realm of a dying sun","The serpent´s egg")or simply the "1981-1998 Box set" which to me represents the quintessential DcD item ...

4-"if "3-" is a point there might as well be a "4-" ...

G.I.S.M. (General Imperialism Social Murder) - Human Condition

“Without a single doubt the best G.I.S.M. bootleg ever made.” can be read on G.I.S.M.´s unofficial website...well I´d personally simplify this to “Without a single doubt the BEST bootleg ever made”. I can only compare this to “a tribute to the black emperors” (Mayhem) vinyl bootleg.

Listening to a song like “Fire”(Believe it or not this is some early 80´s compilation "song") can only be comparable to the 1st time I listened to that version of “Carnage” contained in the later.Instantly reminds me of why I got into Metal/Punk in the 1st place,the uncompromising naked aggression, a lingering sense that “the boundary between “music” and actual threat can at times get rather blurry" blah,blah,blah ...(to be continued or edited or whatever when I happen to be less boring or more drugged up ... or both)

G.I.S.M. (God In the Schizoid Mind) - M.A.N.

In M.A.N. (Military Affairs Neurotic) by G.I.S.M. we have a true lost classic if there’s still such a thing these days.

To refer to this as “ahead of its time” would be ridiculously detrimental . Just imagine the most unlikely fusion of styles back when this was conceived resulting in something which succeeds at existing independently from the mere sum of its parts.

The rather explicit brit punk influence on display on the debut is very,very subtle in here,its presence is more in "spirit" than anything else audible - that "Fukk you and your expectations,punk is about doing/being what the hell I feel is right" spirit . Uchida is still pretty possessed by Glen Tipton , Adrian Smith or Mantas even . Listen to the awesome "Frozen dirt" , that opening riff is classic era Priest transposed into something altogether more bizarre/demented ...

... and speaking of bizarre/demented - SAKEVI would pretty much be SAKEVI regardless of the band behind him, I can imagine the dude convincingly doing Black/thrash/Noise/Punk/Industrial all at once ...

... as a matter of fact ,there's no need for any "imagining", he's already doing something along those lines in here...

Another posting of the man, the myth, the legend of El Duce. Gardy Loo being another hilarious descent into sleaze and bad taste. Thus becoming an essential listen for the fans of filth.
A pretty rocked out fusion of metal and a touch of punk to this one.. Definitely something to be blasted in public as much as possible. Want some deeper philosophical discussion or meanderings on the existence of El Duce? Fukk off. He'd have told you the same.

There is no doubt in my mind that by the time Renato put his very last touches to diSEMBOWELMENTS’s “Transcendence into the periphereal” he knew that THAT was it (“For we will not pass this way again” if irony(and actually owning cds instead of MP3s) is your thing). I mean,come on,in case you don’t know Disembowelment which is highly unlikely(only second to Autopsy in popularity I suppose),just go and download it ,or something, and then tell me of an album in the metal genre which rivals it in its unique,nearly impenetrable,inexorable expression of Horror...

...well , you know what I like to believe? I like to believe such a fucking masterpiece left its creators so burnt out that they haven't touched any metal again ever since.So , here is Trial of the bow,basically what 2/4 of Disembowelment got involved in right after the former’s demise…”Heh”, fukk going into all the 4AD,Projekt ,”ambience & atmosphere” etc etc bullshit,nothing the vast majority of you wouldn’t know already.

Muzza Monroe

Not that long ago I was introduced to a couple of bands ,by Namru_Xul, which for this or that reason I feel belong in the same space (not that they are necessarily part of some moronic scene or whatever) … the bands I’m referring to are Those poor bastards ,Sons of perdition and Muzza Monroe & The lushous strings …
So ,what is it that seems to bond these together?
Basically all of the aforementioned bands prove that one can make new from old … a projection of “old” musical formats into the present day if you will… Muzza Monroe’s ethanol soaked world weary musings are just that - rock or/and blues blended together with traditional/folk (and at times the other way around and then more) and lets not forget the string arrangements (which in here are far from being just another superfluous artifice) … all of it ironically in tune with present day reality .
