So here I am on the toilet, thumbing through "Swedish Death Metal" in the band section and came across this description "I want to play like seagulls, backwards.". That will grab my attention instantly any day. So I look em' up and am treated to what sounds like a bunch of Swedes that learned how killer Vital Remains are (pre Benton, of course). They cranked out 2 demos which were a nice and ugly fusion of the two national styles, had them compiled for this release and then called it a day... Definitely some quality shit.

Avoiding the lame and boring "essay" on the subject lets just say that it made perfect sense for a substancial amount of people involved in the late 80s/early90s Death-Black underground scene to welcome USA´ G.G.F.H. as one of their own so to speak...

yet the main reason for this unlikely acceptance is much simpler...as opposed to their peers in Skinny Puppy,Coil,Ministry ,etc etc GGFH un/consciously opted for a language which was way closer to that of Death-Black underground:

The Satanic trait was there (LaVeyan sort of individualist/Hedonistic crap but yeah) ;

the "lo-fi" production/performance values;

the stage show even ,which was basically a reflection of the themes explored on the albums(TV sets transmiting random images of snuff,porn ,assorted so called human perversions,religious junk,bloodbuckets,evisceration of stuffed dolls ,you get the picture).

On the other hand their peers looked either tame in comparison or made impenetrable by a much more complex language which was of no relevance whatsoever to what was being answered by/asked of metal ...

(tiresome) here´s hoping that was highly interesting and full of sense ... you have all my cds here(320kbps-I seem to enjoy this bit,as a matter of fact so much that I´m tempted to add that these are all out-of-print now ) and the 2005 SS album which I do not own etc etc

1st time I bumped into Disharmonic Orchestra coincided with the release of their debut Split with Pungent Stench which,if memory isn´t failing me,was one of Nuclear Blast´s 1st releases or maybe even the very first one(couldn´t be bothered to check this out)
...anyways,after having purchased said Split (at a time when Death/Grind was already a serious contender to usurp Thrash metal´s leading role as the ultimate,most extreme expression within the metal genre as a whole) I can´t really affirm that I was impressed by either Pungent stench or Disharmonic Orchestra - both seeemed 2nd rate(to say the least) to me when compared to say Death´s "Leprosy" or Napalm Death´s "From enslavement..." to name but two of those early death/grind albums which were absolutely consuming me at the time...well,in order not to make this very extensive lets move forward some months to the time Disharmonic´s "Expositionsprophylaxe" proper debut was released.
Now,this is a very different product altogether,I was instantly hooked by its intensity,extremity ,you name it.I still lump this together with a few selected early Death/grind classics such as Carnage´s "Dark recollections" or Cadaver´s "Hallucinating anxiety"etc,etc ... "Expositionsprophylaxe" was up to par with all its peers and managed to sound like nothing else at the same time.
Well, in between the relentless death/grind assault that was the "expositionsprophylaxe" debut there was already this quite "unorthodox" interpretation of the original death/grind sound,the use of unusual (for the genre)time signatures ,song arrangements and a general aura of weirdness (not only soundwise but also present in lyrics,image,artwork).This being said ,and moving on to its follow-up in the form of "Not to be undimensional conscious" (which unarguably represents their definitive album imo) I do not think that anything on its predecessors could have prepared the listener to what is to be found in the latter - A Milestone in Tech-Avant-garde-experimental-whatever Death Metal augmented by Tomas Skogsberg at the production helm
Tech-avant garde etc may lead one to think of studio trickery,overuse of keyboards , shitloads of effects,triggers,that emphasis on technical ability,the sort that makes an album sound like a random set of musical exercises as opposed to a cohesive,meaningful collection of songs ... well , think of Voivod´s "Nothingface" album as a reference point, that is the sort of "tech/avant-garde" we have in "not to be undimensional conscious".Fukk , this is getting long ...oh well , you have it all in here except the reunion album which I haven´t eevn heard but judging by the much anathematised "Pleasuredome" album which I enjoy a lot (Think of those albums such as Manes´"Vilosophe",Celtic Frost´s "Cold lake",Voivod´s "angelrat" and so forth) I suspect "Ahead" won´t truly be that "shocking" ... classic stuff ...

In six psychotically gaudy sound studies, Lantlôs unfold a misty array of lost sounds and forlorn words, a depressive manifesto of contemporary Post-Black Metal. As barely any other band before them, Lantlôs manage to conjure the disturbing feeling of being cut off from the world, and they do so by employing grey walls of sound full of madness, desperation, and hopelessness. Caustic and furious, hazy and dragging, and with the psychedelic playfulness of Post Rock, Lantlôs set to music abstract perceptions such as a flight from reality or the search for support in surreal deliriums.

Their music could be compared to the French pioneers of Post-Black Metal, Amesoeurs and Alcest. Hence it’s no wonder that Neige, musician with both these groups, contributes his heart-wrenching screams to the sound of Lantlôs. Moreover, his band-mate Fursy is responsible for the album’s excellent artwork.

nothing that special really, just each and every track they´ve recorded as featured on the 2003 re-issue of their classic "Horrified" album Minus the 2 live tracks which is basically filler and that annoying "extras-all-crammed-into-1cd" approach .

I can´t recommend the "WFBE" demo enough,

basically a session which predated "Horrified" with a couple of killer tracks (read:matching anything on "Horrified")

which were not included in the latter for whatever reason.

This time around the vocals are full on HATE FOREST, WHICH KILLS.

The music is neat and tired, aggressive but clear, not as grim as HF but still grim enough.

This band came about obviously so they could carry on where Sorrow left off, just without the NSBM tag. The song writing is alot better too, not that HF had shit music, just a different approach.

Killer album, don't waste any time for this solid foundation of fury and wisdom.

The single most impressive "Industrial-Metal"(so much more than this though) albums of all time.

Hardly surprising if one is to take into consideration that both Paul Lemos and Chris Moriarty are the USA´s equivalent to,say,Einsturzende Neubauten in Europe - in other words,pioneers/innovators in the US´s ambient-noise-industrial etc scene (if there ever was one at all) ... so, basically people who´ve been experimenting with sound in general since as early as the late 70s

,having released countless albums as Controlled Bleeding prior to this "project"... and speak of longevity paying off - the way sound is used in here in order to evoke mood - space denotes exactly that imo (listen to a song like "in the sewer of dreams" to name but one) -

... and yeah ,we also have the "Metal" part to it (not that I´m in some way disassociating it from the above or anything), well , it´s 91, those of you who were around and into metal (not necessarily metal-metal,more like all that exciting new extreme music that was being released by labels like Earache for instance) can fairly easy attest that 91 was a peak of sorts(in creativity,extremity,you name it) for taht style of music thus making perfect sense that "outsiders" such as CB opted to dabble with it while doing these two albums which were quite clearly an outlet for a Darker vision.

Nefandus was a trio comprised of band leader Belfagor, along with Demogorgon and Ushatar.Belfagor later formed Ofermod after Nefandus split up, and has been sporadically active as a musician since then due to problems with DRUG ADDICTION and PRISON TIME. Wroth Emitter Productions continues introducing us the works of unremitting actor of underground culture whose psychotraumatic music is as unique as for example the works of CIRCLE OF OUROBORUS, those made split with him some months ago. It should to be mentioned that his music is transforming from album to album into canvas much painful, infernal, obscene for the philistine's ears (each song of TODESSTOSS can be correlated with canvas drawn by Martin Lang or other insane painter).
The new work called ABWEGNIS 121 continues the transformation began in Wurmer Zu Weinen, namely escape from definite structure (padded out melodiousness is the consequence), using more terrific painful vocals and unpredictable sound moves. But in Wurmer Zu Weinen there seems to be some kind of monotony of vandalism taking place over listener, ABWEGNIS 121 contains various transformations, as the album consists of several parts recorder in several sessions.

The album begins from already known canvas from 2006 demo (Pantherwelle), where the transition to the new level of music only began. Then 2 songs follow, one of them being new, another one being taken from 2008 demo (Vogelmann), that was issued as 42 handnumbered tapes thus it was not available for most listeners. Structure and sound of these songs show the transformation mentioned above. There acoustic psycholullaby with clean vocals follow. It does relax one a little before 2 final canvas (12 and 16 minutes appropriately). The first one is new, second one is also taken from Vogelmann demo. The structure of first one is characterized by the new transformation with continuosly changing rhythms and the mockery over own voice, second one being the hypnotic immersion into the depths of insanity. Constant and accurate rhythm and clean, calm and sometimes deep voice does help. And in the end of the trip piano sounds appear and turn back the listener to the world of something definite and understandable. But only for the short time...

This is the kind of release Xul is all about.
Something that makes the common man bite the back of his chair through fear of understanding the black mind of madness, and dare we whisper, knowing that once this album runs out, common man will futher seek the devils advice and masturbate in the face of God.

When I first picked up this bands demo in 2004 I was drawn to a description as to what the running theme happened to be, which was, Rape, Murder, Drugs, Torture and Hate. Obviously I was driven to purchase, and what I got was pretty much what you'll hear on this release, only this time around I wonder if this was recorded within a padded cell constructed and driven deep into the earth where only the most insane and black minds can be held.

Black as night black as pitch... blacker than the foulest witch.

That pretty much sums up how this demon brew pours. As soon as you put it up to your greasy pizza face you immediately are blown back by the hop punch. The taste leaves you just as baffled. Is this a fucking stout or is it an IPA? Stone as usual doesn't give a shit what you think is the norm. They brew what they want and let you wimps decide if you are worthy. They tag this one as a "Black IPA", which works for me. At 8.7% its nothing you waste on a woman. This is a perfect elixir to toss back as you plot world domination.

Overall: Highly recommended if you can stomach anything stronger than the leftover
Zima your woman allows you to drink.

Ironically & conveniently enough ,the best/most succinct way to describe what DcD means to me/how I perceive it all(whichever way you may wish to put it)coincides with one of their songs´ title - "Anywhere out of the world"- or if that sounds pretentious,pompous,pathetic,_____ or all of the above combined,perhaps 4AD Ivo´s(?!) words may just happen to be less (or more)so : "Dead Can Dance were not obsessed with the past, nor did they provide a sense of nostalgic escape into bygone ages. They severed boundaries and set music free from the fetters of time and place, soaring out of the immediate world".

...Anyways ... fukk what they mean to me or to anybody else for that matter,let´s focus more on what EXACTLY is in here:

1-the COMPLETE official discography (@320kbps) uploaded directly from my juuuuust as complete cd collection(just a 1 + 1/3 exception due to the (in)conveniences of vynil and technical problems respectively)

2-a bootleg series I particularly enjoy (6 over 1 hour long each cds of unreleased songs, demos,rehearsals,lives etc),not necessarily for the "right" reasons but I guess those of you who´ve been with DcD for half as long as we have will enjoy it just as much...Oh yeah, I do not own those so expect the quality you truly deserve)

3- As a starting point I´d either go for their "mid-period" albums("Spleen & Ideal","Within the realm of a dying sun","The serpent´s egg")or simply the "1981-1998 Box set" which to me represents the quintessential DcD item ...

4-"if "3-" is a point there might as well be a "4-" ...

The latest album by Norsenerd Idols 1349.
I've been scratching my chin over posting this or not, and as you may be able to tell, I have chosen to.
Why?
I'm still not sure, but I do know that I've listened to this three times so far, which is alot considering the amount of other crap I have awaiting review and verdict.
Each song has its own intro, an atmospheric instrumental passage dedicated to sucking you in before smashing you off your computer chair.
Compared to what this band used to do I've found this release a decent listen, their last album was different to this and what came before both, but this is somewhat more familiar only better.
This is a love them or hate them band, so this album will pretty much be on the same path.
Or you can be like me, not care and just listen.

I'd been keeping a close eye on the release of this album, simply because it was being released on Cold Dimensions(Lunar Aurora, Graupel, Trist).
We have an album that is split into two sections. The first three songs being '50 Sommer' and the last three being '50 Winter'.
Mature, German speaking progressive modern Rock is the order of the day, which at times can wear you down, slumped in your chair with no consideration for tomorrow, or the passing minutes...just cigarette stains on your lips and empty bottles at your feet.
There is a darkness to all of this, which is subtle and will show itself only to the seasoned listener, so sit back, download and wallow in your own black mood.

Kevorkian Death Cycle - Collection For Injection

Many, many a moon ago I had the good fortune to catch on to a small local goth / industrial gig. Catching the local public transport and hanging around the downtown ghetto waiting in line with a bewildered born again Christian kid that had no idea of what he was in for as he watched dozens of black clothed heroin chic kids walking up to wait in line at the venue. He lasted about 20 minutes in line before telling us "I can't do this, man.". Off the wimp went into the night... Jesus saving him from some good cheap entertainment. A young demo band named Kevorkian Death Cycle were one of the main support acts for the local bands that showed up. They were also by far the most effective band of the night. Basically playing an early 90s strain of club fag industrial, they actually managed to eek out a few albums before more or less disappearing. This, their demo and eventual debut album was by far the best effort they ever put out. Amusingly enough, their better material is to be found on the second half of the album. For what it was, it was fantastic. Xul presents this to you as a memory of the youth of a Xulim and for your own use and abuse.

The Xulim have trudged on in their need to infect the Xuliverse with their sounds and concepts. After many battles, losses and victories the Xulim returned home to the m:1 sector, wiser for their experiences and collective galactic plundering.

As we look back to our beginnings we see a simple AI learning for itself what was to be expected of it as the Xulim began to push the NebulaCruiser Xul to the unexplored corners of existence. As it grew the collective hive mind of the Xulim grew. It realized it needed to cast off elements of itself in order to grow. Stronger for the experience of shooting its weaker elements out of an airlock. The Xulim set their sights on focusing on the greater goal. The defeat of its first opposition. The Luvanicron. What sent the Xulim scattering from their homeworld to begin with began to follow them, a mind dedicated to destroying the ideals of Xul. It came with weapons systems locked and incinerated the surface of Homeworld in the m:1 sector. NebulaCruiser Xul fired up its ion engines and warped on to other sectors. Always studying the Luvanicron to understand its weaknesses and vulnerabilities. In time its estrodroids were able to even conquer a Xulim and Thulsa_Xul fell in battle, as chronicled in our past Xul Ex Machina posts. The weaknesses were eventually revealed, and swarm after swarm of suicidal Xulborgs were unleashed on the Luvanicron itself. Where cannon fire had failed, cannon fodder would succeed. In time the Xulim themselves would launch an all out assault and send one of their own hurtling into the half organic heart of the Luvanicron itself, armed with explosives of Xul design. Belum_Xul was chosen for this task, and completed his mission of setting the explosives as the Luvanicron was distracted by the oncoming swarms of Xulborgs. The Xuliverse itself stopped for a moment, and the heart of the Luvanicron exploded, setting off a chain reaction that nearly ripped open the fabric of space itself. Even Belum_Xul could not escape this blast, and as a result his damaged frame was brought back to NebulaCruiser Xul and eventually reawakened. His mind semi shattered from the experience, his name would be changed to reflect the onset of a new era for the Xulim. With the Luvanicron's network of estrodroids falling from the atmospheres of their planets as inert pieces of junk, the formerly explored worlds were once again free to recolonize. The Xulim found the radiation levels of Homeworld to be tolerable, and reestablished themselves in their dominion. Reaching out now to lash out at a universe ready for the plunder.

So, our loyal Xulborgs, you may ask... Where do the Xulim go from here? The answer? Everywhere. Xulim operations are expanding in a multitude of different directions. Our new prototype armor operation is currently behind schedule, awaiting a Xulim council to decide the aesthetic value for maximum effectiveness of battlefield terror tactics.
Audio warfare division will continue on as has been our staple. New strains of aural bacteria are being researched for your use and abuse.
Interrogations are to begin shortly with subjects responsible for the creation of these various strains. We must know the full scope of these weapons, not just that they simply work.
Xul Creations will be our new strain for projects, with various battle tested veterans and new recruits alike.

And as for the Xulim themselves? Tractus_Xul is currently exploring new concepts in pornographic exploitation. Narkoun_Xul is at work in the forge of the Xul Cartel. Namru_Xul is lurching behind with damaged engines to catch back up with the rest of the Xul fleet.
Algol_Xul is going through an active system analysis. Nazgul_Xul (formerly Belum) is establishing his home base in the nebular clouds in the m:1 sector. Nihilus_Xul is securing the resources for constructing the Xul compound.

The ability to create a fictional universe within your head. With cultures, languages, beliefs, landscapes and history. Surely in the terms of art, can there be any greater ability than to think up a universe that others believe in and chronicle? The impact of Tolkien is well noted throughout the history of metal culture. But none were ever so able to capture the pure essence of the work like Summoning. Their primitive roots gave birth to a monster no one could have expected... Fusing darkwave with black metal in an idea that no one had touched before, or really even could begin to touch since. These are the masters of their craft, the true weavers of the tales at the fire, passing down their stories to the captivated crowd as their faces move with shadow as the flames flicker. The telling of the tales is a simple formula, but one that is incredibly effective. Bombast, atmosphere, length... Each 6-10 min song taking its time and repeating its themes to you in order to sink itself deep into your psyche so that you remember the tales yourself to pass down one day. So many others have tried since, but none have ever been as fanciful of a speaker as Summoning. Start with Stronghold to initiate yourself. Then look back to Dol Guldur and Nightshade Forests. From there you will be properly initiated into the world of Summoning to seek out the rest of their works.

Listening to a song like “Fire”(Believe it or not this is some early 80´s compilation "song") can only be comparable to the 1st time I listened to that version of “Carnage” contained in the later.Instantly reminds me of why I got into Metal/Punk in the 1st place,the uncompromising naked aggression, a lingering sense that “the boundary between “music” and actual threat can at times get rather blurry" blah,blah,blah ...(to be continued or edited or whatever when I happen to be less boring or more drugged up ... or both)

Who were basically some amusing but in the end dull sympho bm that later turned into some industrial dabbled bm with way too much pop added. Then they realized they were all infected with AIDS and got angry. Dissolving their past innocence they came back with a teen raping vengeance infection machine called Havoc Unit. Much more effective than their prior work and even proof that you can be influenced by Meshuggah without being a completely boring heap of shit.
Definitely headed in the right direction here.

In M.A.N. (Military Affairs Neurotic) by G.I.S.M. we have a true lost classic if there’s still such a thing these days.

To refer to this as “ahead of its time” would be ridiculously detrimental . Just imagine the most unlikely fusion of styles back when this was conceived resulting in something which succeeds at existing independently from the mere sum of its parts.

The rather explicit brit punk influence on display on the debut is very,very subtle in here,its presence is more in "spirit" than anything else audible - that "Fukk you and your expectations,punk is about doing/being what the hell I feel is right" spirit . Uchida is still pretty possessed by Glen Tipton , Adrian Smith or Mantas even . Listen to the awesome "Frozen dirt" , that opening riff is classic era Priest transposed into something altogether more bizarre/demented ...

... and speaking of bizarre/demented - SAKEVI would pretty much be SAKEVI regardless of the band behind him, I can imagine the dude convincingly doing Black/thrash/Noise/Punk/Industrial all at once ...

... as a matter of fact ,there's no need for any "imagining", he's already doing something along those lines in here...

... just fukking awesome !!!!

G.I.S.M. just like the former is actually an acronym which has different variations such as 'Guerrilla Incendiary Sabotage Mutineer' (original), 'God In the Schizoid Mind', 'General Imperialism Social Murder', 'Genocide Infanticide Suicide Menticide', and 'Gnostic Idiosyncrasy Sonic Militant'.

Also much like early SPK , GISM were widely known for violence present in their lyrics/concepts and live shows, “On stage, Sakevi would often be dressed on stage wearing a balaclava and bullet belt, waving lit flares in audience members' faces, using microphone stands as clubs, and attacking concert goers as Vietnam war footage was projected behind him. In the past he has attacked photographers for taking pictures of him and has chased audiences with a flamethrower.”.

Now this is an album I've been waiting for.
The previous two efforts have been solid rocks of enjoyment.
The first album took a while to grow for me, it sounded like Ondskapt were trying to worship DMDS era Mayhem, the album had the same feel to it, but after many listens I "got it".
Their second release was and is a haunting, powerful, tormented offering.

So fingers crossed, this effort should prove to be just as solid and maybe even more malevolent.

This differs slightly from the last Ondskapt, as that differed from the one before it, it's still the same creative talent, just a step beyond..killer stuff.
